Lake Norman Wildlife Conservationists
LIVE Osprey Nest Cam
LIVE Heron Rookery Cam
EarthCam and the Lake Norman Wildlife Conservationists are proud to bring you a live streaming, bird’s eye view, of an osprey nest and heron rookery located on Lake Norman in Mooresville, NC. The osprey nesting platform, located in the shallow water surrounding a small wooded island, is one of over seven-dozen platforms constructed by the organization over the past decade through grants from the Catawba-Wateree Habitat Enhancement Program. The heron rookery platforms are located near Heron Island and are one of many platforms constructed by LNWC and grouped together at several locations around the lake. LNWC is a community based organization established for the purpose of environmental education, appreciation of wildlife and natural history, and conservation of wildlife habitat and natural resources. Offering an opportunity to view an active osprey nest provides a unique educational experience to the public and is a testament to LNWC’s commitment to achieving the organization’s vision - to protect and enhance the natural resources and wildlife habitats of the greater Lake Norman area, for all to enjoy.
NOTE: We are currently having a Battery issue with the Web Cams. We need to replace the 4 batteries in each location that are over 4 years old. Osprey's had already laid eggs at that point and we are not allowed to disturb the Osprey nest. Next year prior to the Ospreys return we plan on replacing all batteries. LNWC will do a fund raiser to pay for the batteries.
“The Vision of the Lake Norman Wildlife Conservationists is to protect and enhance the natural resources and wildlife habitats of the greater Lake Norman area, for all to enjoy.”
Projects, Programs, Events and Opportunities
Does your child enjoy nature? Fascinated by animals and insects? In this program, led by Pamela Lewis with LNWC, participants will investigate creatures that live in soil and wood, learn to identify local birds, plants and wildflowers, investigate native trees, and cast for catfish and brim. This program will be held Tuesdays, September 6 - October 18.
No matter your interest there will be volunteer opportunities to match those interest. Some of those opportunities include: assembling Heron/Osprey nesting platforms, plantings for stabilizing shorelines to prevent island erosion, assemble and deploy fish attractors, build and deploy bird/bat nesting boxes, manufacture and deploy turtle platforms, help develop the nature preserve at Robbins Park, etc.
Laketoberfest Music & Brew Festival
Laketoberfest is returning to the Town of Cornelius! With some of the best brews and bands the Lake Norman area has to offer, Saturday, October 15th is anticipated to be a fabulous night to party ‘neath the cover of October skies!
Programs, presentations, outdoor walking or boat tours are given periodically for the purposes of environmental education, appreciation of wildlife and natural history, and conservation of wildlife habitat and natural resources.
